FAQs
What is "Trills and Thrills?"
Trills and Thrills is a music festival for middle school students around the country. The "Trills" refers to the music festival itself, in which the performing group goes to a host school to perform three pieces for a panel of judges. After the performance, the judges give a rating of the performance. Ratings from best to worst are "Superior," "Excellent," and "Good." There are numerous schools that attend and participate at these festivals. The "Thrills" refers to the second segment of the festival, in which the performing school will travel to a nearby amusement park (King's Island) and spend the day having fun there!
Is this trip required?
No. However, it is highly encouraged. This is a great opportunity for middle & high school students to get a taste of performing for a different audience, and for quality professional performance feedback. Not to mention, a fun way to kick off the end of the year! Our hope is that all students in all choirs attend this wonderful event.
How much does the trip cost?
Trills and Thrills participation costs $70 per student.
What does this fee cover?
A $70 fee covers admission to Kings Island, as well as small organizational fees for the concert festival. In addition, this also covers the cost of a choir T-shirt which is worn as a uniform for the performance and throughout the park.
Do Chaperones pay the cost of the trip as well?
For every 10 participating students, our choir is granted a free chaperone ticket. Those will be issued on a first-come, first serve basis. Any additional chaperones that would like to attend will need to pay the admission price for the park.
Can a parent/guardian pay to just attend the festival performance or the amusement park, but not both?
Yes. If you wish to watch the performance, you are welcome to come to the host school and watch free of charge. If you wish to chaperone at King's Island, you must pay the normal admission price for the park.
Can I be refunded any participation fees once paid?
No. Immediately upon receiving payment, the money will be deposited into the choir activities account to be used for the money order that will be placed to reserve tickets for participation and admission. Cash withdrawals or private checks cannot be made from the choir activities account for any reason.
Do I need to transport my child?
No. Busing for the entire choir will be provided by the school district to and from the event. You may however pick your child up from Kings Island early or at the conclusion of the trip if advance notice is given to directors.
If I am a chaperone, do I need to drive myself?
When we have a final number for students participating, we will be able to see how many leftover seats there are on the bus. Any chaperone will be offered a spot on the bus, so long as there is room. If you are simply attending the performance, but not acting as a chaperone at King's Island, you must drive yourself.
What if I, or my child has a season pass to King's Island?
Students that own a season pass to King's Island only have to pay $30. ($5 for the T-shirt, and $25 for a festival participation fee.) Parents that own a season pass may enter the park and listen to the performance free of charge.
Can a student participate in the festival, but not go to King's Island? Vice-versa?
If the student is unable to go to King's Island for any reason, they are still highly encouraged to perform with their group at the host school. They will be responsible for the $25 festival participation fee and $5 T-Shirt. However, students may not "opt out" of the festival participation and come only to King's Island.
