The Eisteddfod is a Welsh festival of music and poetry, which dates back to the 12th century and still takes place in the United Kingdom today. Traditionally, the music and poetry would be ranked through judging, awarding winners in various competitions. In the 1800s, many Welsh natives settled in Jackson and Gallia, Ohio, bringing with them the longstanding Welsh tradition.
Each year, Jackson City Schools hosts an Eisteddfod for students, in which primary school students each present a song for the community and secondary grades have the option to participate for a ranking from judges. This is a great opportunity for students to hone their individual vocal and instrumental performance skills and participating in traditions of the area.
